Video Poker Game: Bet Against the Machine
A video poker game is played based on the rules of 5-card draw poker. Most of the rules of draw poker apply save that a video poker game is played, as implied, not at a poker table but on a machine.
A video poker game will also likely to be based on the Jacks or Better variant. In Jacks or Better, the lowest pay-out is for a pair of Jacks. In order to win, the player needs to have a pair of Jacks or higher. There are more than a hundred video poker games but popular ones include Double Bonus, Double Double Bonus, Deuces Wild, and Joker Wild.
A video poker machine has a screen which displays the dealt cards as well as your bet credit. It has "Cash Out," "Bet Max," "Bet One Credit," "Hold/Cancel," and "Deal/Draw" buttons. You use this buttons when making your bets, drawing your cards, and cashing out your wins when playing a video poker game.
Every video poker game has its own pay table. A pay table charts a game's winning poker hands, the payout for each poker hand as well as the game's theoretical return. Each poker hand gets a different payout. The pay table is displayed either on screen or painted on glass of the machine.
A video poker game begins with the player placing a bet. The bet must between the machine's minimum and maximum. To place a bet, the player has to insert coins or a barcoded ticket into the slot of the machine. After which, the "Deal" button has to pressed. The machine then draws the player five cards.
Your objective is to create a winning hand. As it is with draw poker, the player has the option to have one's hand cards substituted with virtual deck cards when playing a video poker game. Unlike in some variants of table draw poker, there are no limits to how many cards a player can choose to substitute. You may substitute all, or you may substitute none. You many choose one, or you may choose four.
Below each card, there's a "Hold/ Cancel" button. To have a card substituted, you press the button below the card of your choice. After deciding on the card(s) you wish to discard, press the "Deal/Draw" button. The machine will then replace the card(s) you have selected.
If your hand wins, the machine displays your winnings. You have the option to use it for your next game, or to cash it out.
The basic rules of a video poker game are based on the rules of 5-card draw poker. The modification of the table poker rules have been done to match the game to its new setting: a video poker machine. Because each video poker game hold its own minimum and maximum payout as well as selection of winning poker hands, each video poker game can be considered unique though rooted on the same concept: 5-card draw poker.
